This documentation applies to the following products:
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007SP2
  • SharePoint Team-Mailer 1.0
Only English and German environments are supported. This includes the corresponding language packs.

Prerequisites

In order to send an email to a SharePoint-Group it is necessary for every user (including the sender) to have a valid email-address. Usually this information is stored in the user object of your “Active Directory ”.

Installation

The following chapters contain the installation instructions. Please take care of replacing the dummy values with your custom values.

Set up SMTP-Server

The “Team-Mailer“ uses the SMTP-Server which is configured for the entire server. Make sure the outgoing e-mail settings for the server are configured correctly. In Central Administration on the Operations page, choose the "Outgoing e-mail settings" link http://CentralAdminURL:Port/_admin/globalemailconfig.aspx and set the following fields:
  • Outbound SMTP server (Required)
  • From address (Required)
  • Reply-to address
  • Character set.

Install “Team-Mailer” solution

The “Team-Mailer” comes as a “care free” solution package. You can install the solution by using the stsadm command-line tool. By default this tool is located in the following directory:
%COMMONPROGRAMFILES%\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\bin
In this folder you must execute the following commands:
stsadm -o addsolution -filename pathtoTeam-Mailersolution\Team-Mailer.wsp
stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs
Now the “Team-Mailer”-Solution should be listed at the solution management page in the Central Administration http://CentralAdminURL:Port/_admin/Solutions.aspx.

Deploy “Team-Mailer” solution

The solution can be deployed by using the stsadm command-line tool. Just execute the following commands:
stsadm -o deploysolution -name Team-Mailer.wsp -immediate -allowgacdeployment -allowcaspolicies -allcontenturls
stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs
Now the “Team-Mailer”-Solution should be listed as deployed at the solution management page in the Central Administration http://CentralAdminURL:Port/_admin/Solutions.aspx.

Activate “Team-Mailer” Feature

By activating the feature at the SiteCollection level, you can use the “Team-Mailer” in every SiteCollection and Website. To activate the “Team-Mailer”-Feature, go to the page
http://SiteCollectionURL/_layouts/ManageFeatures.aspx?Scope=Site
and click “Activate”.

Create “Team-Mailer” List

To create a new “Team-Mailer” list, go to the following page
http://WebSiteURL/_layouts/create.aspx
and click “Team-Mailer”. Enter a name for the list, chose if you want an entry in the quicklaunch bar and click “Create”.
